Hurb Jephasun – In The End

Imperfection Becomes Part of a Dark Emotional Language

Australian songwriter and visual artist Hurb Jephasun embraces raw expression on In The End, a four-track EP shaped by the uncompromising spirit of Sydney’s underground music scene. Stripped-back arrangements and exposed performances place the weight of the keys and the intimacy of the recording space at the forefront, allowing imperfections to become part of the music’s dark, unsettling character.

Raised in relative isolation, without internet and with only one television channel, Jephasun brings a longstanding familiarity with solitude to his creative work. His songwriting shares an instinct with his painting, favouring bold contrasts and emotional undercurrents over easy explanations. Now based in Perth, where he moves between The Polite Society, The Beautiful Losers and his solo recordings, Jephasun uses In The End to explore vulnerability, memory and the shadows that shape personal expression.

The Parachute Testers – Halfway To Everywhere

A Debut Recorded Overlooking The Irish Sea

Recorded overlooking the Irish Sea, Halfway to Everywhere brings The Parachute Testers’ Wexford and Leeds connections into focus. The collective’s debut pairs acoustic guitars with subtle electronics and synths, with string arrangements by Colm Mac Con Iomaire extending its sense of space. Vocals rise above those interwoven textures, keeping a clear melodic line through the music’s quieter passages.

The setting at Black Mountain Studios in County Louth gives this meeting of musicians a shared point on the map. Their dream-folk and modern indie influences leave room for both acoustic warmth and electronic detail, a combination that suits the record’s concern with distance, connection and quiet resilience. Across that meeting of places and approaches, the group makes room for closeness without closing down the space around the songs.
