Brannen Finds Beauty in the Unfinished on “Closure (All I Want Is)”

A Late-Night Melodic-House Reflection On Unresolved Endings

Brannen leaves the ending open on Closure (All I Want Is), an introspective melodic-house track shaped by the desire for resolution. Set in D minor, the track moves through melodic / progressive house with the patience of someone turning something over in their hands, trying to find the right angle, the right answer, the right end.

Brannen describes his sound as a balance of deep grooves, spacious synths and patient progression. There’s a warmth in that combination, but also a chill at the edges, like streetlight on wet pavement. His background spans live bands and drumming, with more than two decades in music informing his approach to rhythm, arrangement and dynamics. That musician’s perspective gives the electronic project a physical foundation alongside its reflective themes.

The title tells you where the emotional weather is headed. Closure is about the conversations that stay unfinished, the feelings that linger after the door should have closed, the unresolved endings that refuse to behave. All I Want Is sharpens that idea into something plainspoken and almost painfully direct. It sounds simple, but simple is often the hardest thing to get. The track keeps that tension alive, leaving room for listeners to place their own memories inside it. Relationships, change, grief, the slow drift away from a version of yourself. It can hold all of that without pinning itself down.

Following the response to earlier singles, Closure (All I Want Is) feels like a step deeper into a sound that is becoming easier to recognise: melodic, atmospheric, emotionally tuned, and rooted in the physicality of live musicianship. Tulips introduced the project; Keep Dancing With Me followed with a more vocal-led, uplifting take on melodic house. Closure carries that developing identity towards a more introspective theme. Gareth Metcalf at StudioNyne handled the mixing and mastering.

There’s also a strong sense of memory around the release. The cover uses Brannen’s own photograph from a Crystal Castles gig at Glasgow’s O2 ABC in October 2010, carrying a moment from his musical past into the present. Blue and magenta lights and the silhouettes of the crowd remain visible in the image. The venue on Sauchiehall Street has since closed, making this photograph a record of a particular musical place as well as a night out. Brannen is working in a space where club music meets private reflection, where after-hours momentum can carry real tenderness. Closure (All I Want Is) understands that some feelings don’t end cleanly. They fade, they echo, they hang around. This track meets them there, without forcing the final word.
