With her new single “Impossible Dream,” Victoria-based singer-songwriter Pony Gold delivers a raw and unflinching portrait of life in recovery. Known for her blend of folk honesty and alt-country grit, Pony Gold (aka Theresa Bromley) peels back the layers of survival in a world that often feels rigged against hope.

Written during the early days of her sobriety, the track lands with the clarity of someone waking up for the first time in a long while. The lyrics are grounded, aching, and quietly defiant. “It came from a place of anger,” she says, “and reflection on how I had been living, where I was headed, and the deep frustration I felt with the state of the world.” Over steady, stripped-back instrumentation, Gold sings not just about recovery from substances, but about the broader grind of staying afloat in a world where a hundred bucks barely gets you through the checkout line.

There’s no flash or forced sentiment here; just lived experience and the kind of songwriting that sticks with you. Her husband and longtime collaborator Matt Bromley adds rugged, thoughtful guitar work that lets the track simmer rather than shout. Recorded early in the morning after a strong cup of coffee, the session captured the right kind of fire.

“Impossible Dream” is the first single from her upcoming full-length album High Road Reverie, set for release October 3rd. It follows a wave of momentum from her 2023 debut EP Take Me Somewhere, which topped Canadian college radio’s Roots/Folk/Blues chart and earned her nods from Indie 88, The Zone 91.3FM, and the BC Country Music Awards.

For fans of Lucinda Williams, Kathleen Edwards, or Gillian Welch, Pony Gold brings that same sense of truth-telling and emotional weight — music for uncertain times, built on guts and grace.
